Historic Buildings

We specialise in surveys for period and listed buildings.

Listed buildings are an essential part of our architectural heritage, bearing witness to centuries of history and cultural changes. Yet, with their age and unique characteristics come specific challenges and considerations. At Lintels, we understand the balance between preserving the past and ensuring the safety and viability of these structures for the future.

What survey do I need?

A Level 3 Survey, formerly known as a 'Building Survey', is the most comprehensive inspection we offer and is the only appropriate level of survey for these types of buildings.

A Level 3 Survey provides an in-depth analysis of the building's condition, identifying structural defects, potential risks, and necessary repairs.

We provide tailored recommendations suited to the unique characteristics and historical significance of the building, ensuring any advice provided respects its heritage and character.

By identifying potential hazards and risks early on, a Level 3 Survey helps mitigate issues and can prevent costly surprises further down the line.

Why is it crucial to have a survey on a Listed Building?

Listed buildings are not just ordinary properties; they're cultural assets protected by Law due to their historical, architectural, or cultural significance.

Conducting a Level 3 Survey on a listed historic building is paramount for several reasons:

Preservation of Heritage: These buildings are an irreplaceable part of our heritage.  A thorough survey helps ensure their preservation for future generations.

Legal Compliance: As a listed property owner, you have a legal obligation to maintain the building's historic character and structural integrity.  A Level 3 Survey assists by providing actionable insights and recommendations.

Understanding Unique Challenges: Listed buildings often pose unique challenges due to their age, construction methods, and materials. We are experienced in navigating these complexities, offering tailored solutions that balance conservation with practicality.

Preventing Deterioration: Left unchecked, minor issues in historic buildings can escalate into major problems, leading to irreversible damage and loss of heritage value. A Level 3 Survey can help identify and address issues before they escalate, preserving the building's integrity and longevity.
